When Fred Carl created the prototype of the first Viking Range in the mid-80s, every major appliance manufacturer he contacted rejected the idea of an ultra-premium appliance. Fred persevered, and when the first Viking ranges shipped in January 1987, the entire kitchen category was never the same again.
