Ramey Farms, our rooftop organic garden, continues to produce a bounty of vegetables and cut flowers for friends and family. Members of the agency formed a co-op this spring, to share in the expenses and labor of our first rooftop garden experiment.

Ramey Social Media Event

P1010109 Last night at Fondren After 5, Ramey hosted a social media experiment in the Fondren Corner building. Anyone could join the live Twitter feed by tagging their tweets with #fondren which were projected on the wall. Foursquare users could get the coveted “On A Boat” badge on the S.S. Ramey, docked just for the evening. Even more ambitious social media projects to come in the future. Thanks to Peters Real Estate for donating the space. More event photos here.

Ramey Foundation Provides $1 Million Gift

RameyFoundation2010The Tommy Ramey Foundation will endow scholarships at three Mississippi universities totaling $1 million, with the goal of educating and inspiring the state’s next generation of marketing and culinary professionals. Gifts to the University of Mississippi, Mississippi State University and Jackson State University were formally announced this week.

Ramey Rooftop Garden

IMG_2406Several Rameyites with particularly green thumbs have completed Phase I of the Ramey Rooftop Garden. Plans are for tomatoes, bell peppers, jalapeño peppers, squash, zucchini, green onions, marigolds, petunias and sunflowers. Maybe even more. Entergy Doubles Your Efforts to go CO2 Neutral

Entergy is launching Double Your Difference, an initiative that will allow individuals to purchase high-quality carbon offsets and also double the impact of their purchases through Entergy’s dollar-for-dollar match, up to the first five purchased offsets (five tons of CO2). In addition, Entergy will buy one carbon credit in the names of the first 1,000 individuals who become a fan of the company’s Find Your CO2 Facebook page. Ramey created the video above to help promote the effort.

Guide Dogs for the Blind

photoWe received a surprise visit from Guide Dogs for the Blind, a California-based non-profit that is a beneficiary of a bequest from the agency’s founder, Tommy Ramey. Administered through the Community Foundation of Greater Jackson, the bequest will benefit six organizations in perpetuity, continuing the Ramey legacy of giving back.

Ramey Crawfish Fest 2010

The Ramey Agency hosted its second annual Crawfish Fest at the Crawdad Hole with beer, music by Jack’s Zydeco Band and all the crawfish you could stand to eat and then some.

St. Charles Featured in St. Andrew’s DECO

St. Charles Cabinetry, a Ramey client, will be showcased in St. Andrew’s DECO February 24-28. DECO was created to merge the tradition of St. Andrew’s annual Designer Showhouse with the introduction of last year’s Living Green. The concept of DECO puts into action responsible living in urban residencies. The St. Charles kitchen is in one of the two City View condos they are showcasing.

Marathon Gaining National Prominence

“The Blues Marathon has made its mark nationally in a short time,” according to a piece in this week’s Clarion-Ledger. The event, now in its third year, attracts 2,000+ visitors from around the world. Ramey salutes its client, Blue Cross Blue Shield, for its vision and leadership with the marathon. Ramey has provided pro-bono marketing support for the Blues Marathon since the event launched in 2008.
